at Hermiston Sept 10

The Bomber volleyball program began their season on the road against the Hermiston, OR, Bulldogs. The C team came back from a nervous first set loss to win their match 2-1. JV swept 3-0 and were led by Sierra Thomsen with 7 kills. Morgon Maxwell contributed 6 aces and 6 assists. Madison Slade also put up 6 assists.

The Bomber varsity came home with a 3-0 sweep winning 25-20, 25-13, and 25-10. Senior OH Hailey Daves led the Bomber attack with 14 kills and fellow senior OH Sage Brustad, an EWU committ, added 12 kills. Hailey also contributed 5 service aces. Senior middle Anya Solverino blasted 6 kills on 7 attempts as the Bomber offense hit over 40% as a team. Junior libero Ryan White added 3 aces and 5 digs. Junior setters, Payton (Pete) Pedersen and Payton Moore each contributed 15 assists.

vs Pasco. Sept 12

The Bomber freshmen team put on a show for their fans in their opening match of the 2019 campaign winning 3-0. The frosh were led by Kelli Ostboe with 15 service points followed closely by Madison Deery with 13 and Ciel Hastings and Wesley Farr with 8 each. Wesley also added 6 kills followed by Emma Wahlstrom with 5, Katie Hansen with 4 and fellow attackers Kamryn Cook with 4 kills and Jordan Perkins with 3. Great start to the season girls and coach Long.

The C and JV squads continued their winning ways with 3-0 sweeps vs Pasco.

The varsity volleyballers beat Pasco 25-9, 25-7 and 25-11. RHS was led by OHs Sage Brustad and Hailey Daves with 14 kills and 7 kills, respectively. Anya Solferino and Marin Mackey contributed 5 kills each. Bomber volleyball continued their tough serving with 13 team aces led by Marin Mackey with 4 and Hailey Daves, Sage Brustad, and Ryan White with 3 each. Hailey Daves led the Bomber defense with 6 digs followed by libero Ryan White with 5. Pete Pedersen put 23 assists for the Bomber attackers.

at Sundome tournament, Yakima, Sat Sept 14

Bomber volleyball continued their recent success at the Sundome tournament finishing tied for 3rd in the 32 team competition. The ladies lost a hard fought match against Rogers (Puyallyp) 25-22, 23-25 and 12-15. Rogers were the eventual tournament champions.

Richland was led once again by the double trouble tandem of seniors Sage Brustad and Hailey Daves. Brustad's tournament scoring line was 38 kills, 35 digs, 15 aces, and passing a solid 2.2. Daves added 35 kills, and 25 digs and passed an efficient 1.9. Marin Mackey had a break out tournament with 23 kills, 11 block assists, and 3 aces. Setter Payton Moore put up 70 assists, 16 digs and 4 aces, Pete Pedersen added 47 assists and 33 digs. Libero Ryan White led the team with 50 digs and served up 6 aces while passing nearly 2.5.

Update on Bomber alumni.

Alaina Lacey, 2019. Starting Libero/DS for the Idaho Vandal volleyball team as a true freshmen, and has a season high 27 digs in a match against Cal State Fullerton. Go Lainie.

Chelsey Bettinson, 2011. Getting married October 12 to Brett Wheeles in Fallbrook, CA
